ChessMovio Guides

Chess guides you play through, not just read.

Opening, middlegame and endgame guides built around annotated games, live boards and drills. Engine-checked and reviewed before release.

  1. Rook Endgames: Activity Before Pawn Collecting

Give your rook a concrete job: escort a passed pawn, gain a tempo with check, or hold a worse ending with counterplay. Three endings, six practice questions. For improving club players, roughly 1300–1900.

Every guide ends in practice

Drills put you in a position from the guide. Your first answer counts, every answer is explained, and you can replay the game continuation afterwards.

  • Theory in plain language, written for this guide
  • Annotated games you step through move by move
  • Drills on moves and on plans
  • A session summary with the positions you flagged

After 16.Rc2, how should Black continue?

  1. With ...b5: the a4 knight and the c4 pawn are attacked together, and the a6 pawn supports the advance.
  2. With ...g5: the pawn takes f4 and h4 away from White before either lever is played.
  3. With ...f5: e4 has one defender, and after an exchange on f5 the bishop recaptures with an attack on the c2 rook.
